GREENWOOD – Armstrong State pitcher Jane Trzaska tossed a no-hitter and belted a three-run home run in Game 1 Saturday afternoon to lead the Pirates to a Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader sweep against Lander at Doug Spears Field. Armstrong won the first game in five innings, 9-0, and the second, 4-1.

Armstrong improves to 13-7 overall and 2-0 in the PBC, while Lander moves to 10-14, 5-7.

In the first game, Trzaska (7-4) tossed the complete-game, no-hitter as she struck out five and walked three in five innings.

Lander's Hannah Newton (6-7) was tagged with the loss after striking out four, walking eight and allowing eight earned runs on seven hits in five innings.

Armstrong expoloded for six runs in the third inning on Trzaska's three-run homer to left field, Michelle Breen's solo shot to center field, and RBI singles by Sierra Newman and Alexis Mercer.

The Pirates came up with three runs in the fifth to end the game via the eight-run rule. With bases loaded, Lindsay Stewart scored when Autumn Parrish was hit by a pitch, Peyton Roth went home on a bases-loaded walk, and Breen drove in Mercer.

In the second game, Armstrong's Ollivia McLemore (6-3) was awarded the win after striking out 10, walking three and allowing one earned run on four hits in the complete seven innings.

Lander's Amanda Chastain (4-7) took the loss, striking out one, walking two and allowing one earned run on nine hits in seven innings.

The Pirates went up 1-0 in the second on Newman's RBI triple that plated Stewart, then made it 4-0 in the third on Rachel Reynolds two-run double and Breen's RBI single.

Lander cut the margin to 4-1 in the sixth inning on Halie Sorrow's sacrifice fly that sent Destiny Clyde home.

Clyde had two hits for the Bearcats.
