AMERICUS, Ga. - The No. 33-ranked Lander women's tennis team won its Peach Belt Conference opening match Sunday when it defeated Georgia Southwestern, 8-1, at the Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex.

Lander moves to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the PBC, while the Hurricanes drop to 2-5, 0-3.

Ivanka Mocic (L) 3-6, 7-6, 1-0 (10-5); No. 4 Anni Poikola (L) def. Anna Kate Shaw (GSW) 7-5, 6-2; No. 5 Alyssa Savill (L) def. Anneliese Leahy (GSW) 6-4, 6-2; and No. 6 Maggie Elliott (L) def. Jamie Thomas (GSW) 6-0, 6-1.
