Box Score 2 ANDERSON – The Lander softball team evened its record at 2-2 Friday afternoon when the Bearcats dropped both games of a non-conference doubleheader against Anderson University at Smethers Field. The Trojans won both games, 8-0.
Anderson improves to 8-2 overall.
In the first game, Anderson's Augie Pena earned the shutout victory with four strikeouts, one walk and five hits allowed.
Lander's Hannah Newton (1-1) took the loss after striking out six, walking one and allowing four earned runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings.
The Trojans took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Chelsea Jones that plated Jessica Neidigh, and a groundout by Rachael Barefield that sent Molly Child acoss the plate.
Anderson stretched its advantage to 3-0 in the second on Courtney Czentnar's leadoff home run, then made it 4-0 in the third on Cailah Niles' solo homer to left field.
The Trojans won the game in the fifth inning via the eight-run rule when Jones drove in Allison Oxner, Trudi Shuman went home on an error, Jones scored on a bases-loaded walk, and Carli Hurtado's RBI double scored Czentar, Rebecca Martin and Bethany Chapman.
In the second game, Lauren Rudesheim (3-1) earned the win, striking out seven, walking one and allowing three hits.
Lander's Amanda Chastain (1-1) suffered the loss with one walk and three earned runs on 11 hits.
Anderson jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning after Cailah Niles and Barefield had RBI singles that plated Neidigh and Child.
Bri Cason's solo homer in the fourth gave the Trojans a 3-0 advantage and they picked up another run in the inning when Niles drove in Neidigh.
Neidigh added another run in the sixth when she scored on a Niles' fielder's choice, then Rebecca Martin smacked a three-run double that stretched the lead to 8-0.
