Box Score GREENWOOD - The No. 12-ranked Lander men's soccer team advanced to Friday's semifinal round of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament after the third-seeded Bearcats defeated sixth-seeded Clayton State, 3-1, Tuesday night at Van Taylor Stadium.
Lander, which defeated the Lakers, 1-0, earlier this season, improves to 13-2-1 overall, while Clayton State ends the season at 8-7-1. Lander will face second-seeded Flagler at 8 p.m., Friday, at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans, Ga. Flagler downed No. 7 Montevallo, 4-1, in its quarterfinal game.
Jamie North gave the Bearcats a 1-0 lead at 15:42 when he took a Richard Bryan pass and blasted it in the net from 25 yards on the left.
The Bearcats pushed their advantage to 2-0 just one minute later after Robert Seaton scored off a free kick from 30 yards.
Clayton State cut the lead to 2-1 at 28:11 on Iain Smith's unassisted shot from 10 yards.
Kioki Hutchings finalized Lander's scoring when he nailed a 10-yard score with three seconds remaining in the first half.
Lander outshot the Lakers, 21-15, but Clayton State led in corner kicks, 8-4.
Clayton State goalkeeper Viltsu Tuumi grabbed seven saves, while Lander's Barrett Nielsen had six.
