Box Score MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The fifth-seeded Lander volleyball team battled back from a 2-0 deficit Tuesday night to upset fourth-seeded Montevallo, 3-2, in Trustmark Arena and advance to Friday's Peach Belt Conference Tournament semifinal round against top-seeded USC Aiken at the Pacers' Convocation Center. Lander, which split with the Falcons during the regular season, set a single-season school record for wins as the Bearcats improve to 24-11. Montevallo slips to 20-13 and must now wait to see if it receives an NCAA bid.
The victory puts Lander in the semifinals for only the fifth time in the 18-year history of the program. Lander has only made it to the tournament finals once, when it fell to USC Aiken in the 2007 championship match.
Senior Julia Ferreira-Alves and Halle Dotson had 20 kills each to lead the Bearcats. Ferreira-Alves completed her double-double with 14 digs. Bearcat setters Ali Kirk and Sophia Perkins also posted double-doubles as Kirk tallied 31 assists and 11 digs, while Perkins chipped in 28 assists and 15 digs. Khiani Kelly came through with 10 kills, Tarryn Angermeier had four kills, seven block assists and one solo block, Mallory Taylor 31 digs, Kendall Korte six kills and 25 digs, and Reyonia Whipple one solo block and seven block assists.
The Falcons were led by Kristy Bohan (19 kills), Nicole Holton (13 kills, 16 digs), Chandler Cooper (13 kills), Briana Marquez (47 assists, 15 digs), Carissa Bell (36 digs), Rebekah Phelps (20 digs), and Grace Harris (14 digs).
