Box Score 2 GREENWOOD - The Lander volleyball team recorded another split Saturday in the PBC/SAC Crossover when the Bearcats lost to Carson-Newman, 3-0, then came back to defeat Mars Hill, 3-0, in non-conference games in Horne Arena.
C-N downed Lander, 25-23, 27-25, 25-23. Lander defeated Mars Hill, 25-20, 25-21, 25-11.
Lander improves to 17-6 overall and will next host Flagler College and Armstrong State respectively this Friday and Saturday in a Peach Belt Conference weekend at Horne Arena.
Carson-Newman improved to 15-3 and Mars Hill slipped to 4-12.
Against Carson-Newman, Lander's Kendall Korte led the Bearcats with 16 kills, while Sophia Perkins added 22 assists, Ali Kirk 14 assists, Julia Ferreira-Alves 19 digs, and Mallory Taylor 11 digs. Tarryn Angermeier, Korte and Reyonia Whipple had three blocks each.
The Eagles were led by Sara Fairley (17 kills), Maddie Borch (14 kills), Natalie Harris (13 kills), Molly Locke (10 kills, 20 digs), Anna Patton (51 assists), and Taylor Lowe (11 digs).
Against Mars Hill, Angermeier blasted 17 kills, while Korte added 10 kills and nine digs, Kirk 27 assists, Perkins 12 assists, Ferreira-Alves 18 digs, Mallory Taylor 18 digs, and Kaitlyn Harrison 13 digs.
The Lions were paced by Rebecca Butler (13 kills), Sara Fahrenbrook (33 assists), Mary Kate Griffin (13 digs), and Victoria Kaiser (13 digs).
