Women's soccer battles Belmont Abbey to 2-2 deadlock

GREENWOOD – Sydney Thompson and Kimberly Kesler scored one goal each Saturday night to lead the Lander women's soccer to a 2-2 deadlock in double-overtime against Belmont Abbey in a non-conference game at the Jeff May Complex.

Both teams move to 1-0-1 overall.

Lander took a 1-0 lead at the 15:20 mark on a Sydney Thompson goal assisted by Kimberly Kesler.

Belmont Abbey came right back and tied the game at 36:30 on an unassisted goal by Cassidy Coutinho.

Kesler then put the Bearcats ahead at 2-1 when she found the back of the net at 50:42.

The Crusaders forced the overtime in the 81st minute on Meghan Philp's unassisted score from in front of the goal.

Lander outshot the Lady Crusaders, 12-11, and led in corner kicks, 9-0.

Lady Bearcat goalkeeper Katie Lyle totaled five saves, while Belmont Abbey's Hannah Kohls had four.
