Box Score 2 FLORENCE - The Lander volleyball team opened the season 2-0 Friday when the Bearcats downed Mars Hill, 3-0, and Erskine College, 3-0, in their season-opening matches at the Francis Marion Invitational.
In the first game, Lander defeated the Lions, 25-18, 25-16, 25-14. The Bearcats downed Erskine, 25-21, 25-22, 25-18, in the second game.
Against Mars Hill, Sydney Tracy had a game-high 16 kills and Tarryn Angermeier added 10. Jessica Register posted 36 assists and 12 digs, while Julia Ferreira-Alves had 24 digs, Kendall Korte 14, and Sarah Bradley 13.
Mars Hill was led by Lauren Hochstetler (10 kills), Sarah Fahrenbrook 27 assists, and Christen Nicholson 23 digs.
Against Erskine, Korte had 11 kills and 19 digs, while Tracy totaled 14 kills, Register 39 assists, Ferreira-Alves 19 digs and Bradley 11 digs.
Erskine was led by Catherine McAlister (11 kills), Caitlin Bullock (10 kills, 17 digs), Kristen Dodge (38 assists, 13 digs), Sade Mendez (14 digs) and Marissa Greenough (12 digs).
Lander will face Shorter College at 3 p.m., Saturday, and Mount Olive at 7.
