DUE WEST - The Lander women's soccer team claimed a 2-0 non-conference victory over Erskine College Thursday night in a season-opening game that was called due to lightning in the 81st minute.

After a scoreless first half, the Lady Bearcats took a 1-0 lead on a free kick by Alexis Rogers at 56:03.

Sydney Thompson netted an insurance goal at 71:53 on an assist from Erin Dooley.

Lander outshot the Flying Fleet, 36-4, and led in corner kicks, 16-0.

Katie Lyle was credited with the victory in goal with one save.

Lander will host Belmont Abbey in its home opener at 5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Jeff May Complex.
