Box Score GREENWOOD – Fayla Junior scored two goals Saturday afternoon to lead the Lander women's soccer team to a 6-0 Peach Belt Conference victory over Georgia Southwestern in the Lady Bearcats' PBC opener.
Lander, which outshot the Hurricanes, 38-0, improves to 3-0-1 overall and 1-0 in the PBC, while GSW drops to 0-6, 0-2.
Kimberly Kesler gave the Bearcats a 1-0 lead on an unassisted shot from 15 yards out on the right side at 5:44.
The Bearcats extended the margin to 2-0 at 26:40 when Noel McDaniel headed the ball in goal off Casey Black's corner kick.
The Bearcats closed out the first half with a 4-0 lead after Junior's unassisted shot from 25 yards out found the back of the net at 41:36, and Hannah Martin fired the ball in from in front of the net at 44:13 off Kayla Combs' corner kick.
Logan Lewis gave the Bearcats a 5-0 advantage just 30 seconds into the second half on an assist from Erin Dooley, then Junior netted her second score of the day on an assist from Taylor Hurst to finalize the scoring.
Lander had 12 corner kicks, compared to GSW's 0.
Georgia Southwestern goalkeeper Chelsee Wright had 13 saves.
