Box Score GREENWOOD – The Lander men's soccer team battled back from a three-goal, first-half deficit and netted three of their own goals in the final 15 minutes of regulation Saturday to force a 3-3 double-overtime deadlock against Peach Belt Conference foe Georgia Southwestern at the Jeff May Complex.
Lander moves to 3-1-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the PBC, while GSW is now 2-2-2, 1-0-1.
The Hurricanes swirled early and took a 1-0 lead on Ron Calle's unassisted goal at 6:43 on a breakaway down the left side.
Isaac Avila made it 2-0 on a shot from in front of the goal at 25:35, which was assisted by Cesar Espinoza.
Espinoza scored a goal of his own at 31:37 on an assist from DJ Garrett to put GSW up 3-0.
Lander, which outshot GSW, 27-7, dominated the second half offensively. Zach Acree netted the Bearcats first goal on a double-assist from Eoin O Donovan and Jakob Jensen at 74:50 to trim the lead to 3-1.
Elias Hatungimana popped in a short range shot off a Robert Seaton assist to cut the margin to 3-2 with 7:30 left in regulation.
Russell Parker forced the overtime when he fired in a header at 83:36 off an assist from Jose Cubillan.
Lander led in corner kicks, 10-3.
GSW goalkeeper Garrett Blamire totaled 12 saves.
Lander will next travel to Erskine College for a non-conference game at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 24, in Due West, S.C.
