Box Score GREENWOOD – The Lander women's soccer team got three goals from three different players Sunday afternoon and defeated Saint Leo, 3-1, in a non-conference game at the Jeff May Complex.
Lander improves to 2-0-1 overall, while Saint Leo drops to 3-1. The Lions had outscored its opponents, 15-1, in its prior three games.
Logan Lewis gave Lander a 1-0 lead at 13:35 on a shot in front of the goal off an assist from Kimberly Kesler.
The Bearcats made it 2-0 at 21:57 when Kesler found the back of the goal on a breakaway down the left side.
Lander scored for the final time on a Casey Black shot that was assisted by Taylor Hurst at 25:16.
Saint Leo's lone score came at 72:52 on Arielle Kabangu's unassisted goal from in front of the goal.
The Bearcats outshot the Lions, 13-6, but Saint Leo led in corner kicks, 4-2.
Saint Leo goalkeeper Laura Carstens had three saves in the second half, while starter Abby Evans had two in the first. Lander's Katie Lyle recorded one save.
Lander's next travels to Wingate for a 7 p.m. non-conference game on Wednesday, Sept. 17.
