Box Score 2 GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - The Lander volleyball team tied the school record for the best start ever Friday when the Bearcats swept Lincoln Memorial University and Belmont Abbey by 3-0 scores in the Pioneer Classic hosted by Tusculum College. Lander downed LMU, 25-22, 25-23, 25-19, then went 25-13, 24-14, 25-19 against the Crusaders.
Lander improves to 6-0, which ties the 1999 and 2009 teams for the best start. The Bearcats have yet to give up a set this season.
Against LMU, Lander's Tarryn Angermeier and Sydney Tracy had 15 and 10 kills respectively, while Jessica Register added 39 assists, Kendall Korte 14 digs, and Sarah Bradley 11 digs.
LMU was led by Brooke Fleeman (11 kills), Kiera Holland (10 kills), Abby Cash (31 assists, 15 digs), and Casey Mense (16 digs).
Against Belmont Abbey, Lander's Tracy led the way with 14 kills, while Register had 32 assists, Julia Ferreira-Alves 13 digs, Kaitlyn Harrison 12 digs and nine kills, Bradley 12 digs, and Kendall Korte 11 digs.
Belmont Abbey was led by Hannah Schellenberg (13 kills, 10 digs), Gabby Martinez (14 assists), and Julie Newell (17 digs).
Lander will continue play at the Pioneer Classic Saturday when the Bearcats play King College at 11 a.m., and host Tusculum at 4.
