Box Score 2 MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Lander softball team ended its season Tuesday afternoon when it dropped both ends of a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader to Georgia College, 7-2 and 9-0.
Georgia College improves to 34-14 overall and 13-9 in the PBC, while Lander slips to 8-42, 2-20.
In the first game, Carly Lewis (16-8) was awarded the win with five strikeouts and one earned run on seven hits in the complete seven innings.
Lander's M.K. Pegram (2-16) took the loss with three strikeouts, one walk and three earned runs on six hits in 3.2 innings.
Georgia College took a 2-0 lead in the third inning after Danielle Knight scored on a throwing error and Whitney Okvist went home on Taylor Campbell's sacrifice fly.
The Bobcats stretched the advantage to 5-0 in the fifth when Lewis scored on a wild pitch, Knight stole home and Whitney Horton drove in Okvist. Georgia College added another run in the fifth on Knight's RBI single.
Lander cut the gap to 6-2 in the sixth on Aubrey Lamar's two-RBI single that plated MaKenzie Smith and Emily Marousek.
Abi LeRoy's RBI single in the sixth gave Georgia College a 7-2 advantage.
For Georgia College, Okvist, Horton and LeRoy had two hits apiece, while Lander's Marousek had three.
In the second game, Marisa Boyette (12-6) tossed a one-hit shutout with nine strikeouts for Georgia College.
Lander's Amanda Chastain (2-8) was the losing pitcher, striking out one, walking two and allowing six earned runs in two innings.
The Bobcats scored one run in the first, four in the second and three in the third to take an 8-0 lead. Campbell scored on a throwing error in the first; Faith Flanders had a solo homer run, Knight a two-RBI double and Taylor Campbell an RBI single in the second; and Cassidy Rice an RBI single and Knight an RBI double in the third.
Georgia College completed its scoring with Rice's fielder's choice RBI in the fourth and the game was called due to the eight-run rule.
Knight had two hits for Georgia College.
