Box Score 2 GREENWOOD – The Erskine softball defeated Lander in a non-conference softball doubleheader Tuesday afternoon, winning the first game, 1-0, and the second, 3-2, at Doug Spears Field.
Erskine improves to 11-15, while the Bearcats drop to 6-32.
In the first game, Erskine's Taylor Fernandes scored the lone run in the seventh inning on an RBI single by Jacquie Hill.
Danica Newton (4-8) earned the win for the Flying Fleet with five strikeouts, two walks and five hits in the complete-game shutout.
Lander's Amanda Chastain (2-5) took the loss after striking out three, walking one and allowing one earned run on seven hits in seven innings.
Emily Marousek had two hits for Lander.
For Erskine, Erika McCarson and Kaitlyn Kerley had two hits apiece.
In the second game, Katherine Mulzer (1-1) earned the win in four innings of relief, striking out three, walking two and allowing three hits.
Lander's Tyler Riendeau (0-7) took the loss with four strikeouts and three earned runs on seven this in four innings.
Erskine took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning after Kathryn Windham went home on Christine Long's RBI double down the left field line – and she later scored on Candace Fitch's RBI single – then Taylor Hedger went home on a stolen base attempt by Fitch to make.
Lander cut the margin to 3-2 in the bottom of the inning after Taylor Donson scored on an error and Melanie Davis doubled in Emily Marousek.
Erskine was led by McCarson, who had three hits.
Donson had two hits for Lander.
