AMERICUS, Ga. – The Lander softball team dropped both ends of a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Georgia Southwestern. The Hurricanes won the first game, 6-2, and took the second, 5-1.

GSW improves to 22-16 overall and 6-6 in the PBC, while Lander moves to 6-28, 0-10.

In the first game, GSW's Ashley Cavender (10-9) earned the win with three strikeouts, one walk and two earned runs on seven hits in five innings.

Lander's M.K. Pegram (1-12) took the loss after striking out four, walking three and allowing three earned runs on four hits in 4.1 innings.

After GSW took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on Rachel McElroy's solo home run, Lander tied the game at 1-all in the third when Aubrey Lamar singled in Hannah Gatley.

The Hurricanes went up 3-1 when Allison Pastor and Nellie Moore had solo homers in the third and fifth inning respectively.

Lander cut the margin to 3-2 in the sixth on Lamar's leadoff homer, but GSW came back with three more runs in the bottom of the inning when Mason Moreland had an RBI double, and Ashley Clifton and Moreland scored on a Lander error.

In the second game, Pastor (11-7) was awarded the victory on the mound after striking out two and walking two in six shutout innings.

Lander's Tyer Riendeau (0-4) suffered the loss with two strikeouts, three walks and two earned runs on 10 hits in six innings.

The Hurricanes scored three runs in the first inning after Moreland scored on an error, Nellie Moore had an RBI double and Jordan Miller bunted in Moore.

GSW scored one run each in the second and third innings when Clifton scored on a fielder's choice and Kiley Doster had a sacrifice fly.

Reychel Webster drove in Lindsay Newman in the seventh inning for Lander's lone score.
