Box Score 2 GREENWOOD – The No. 9-ranked North Georgia softball team blasted three home runs in the second game en route to a 13-0 Peach Belt Conference victory and a doubleheader sweep against Lander Friday night at Doug Spears Field. The Nighthawks won the first game, 1-0.
North Georgia improves to 25-7 overall and 5-1 in the PBC, while Lander moves to 6-22, 0-6.
In the first game, North Georgia's Courtney Poole (12-6) earned the complete-game shutout, striking out seven and allowing three hits.
Lander's M.K. Pegram (1-8) took the loss with five strikeouts, four walks and one earned run on three hits in seven innings.
North Georgia scored the lone run of the game in the second inning when Rochelle Shuman drove in Tiffanie Burns with an RBI double.
Chasity Davis batted 2-for-3 for Lander, while Shuman was 2-for-3 for the Nighthawks.
In the second game, Victoria Sink (13-1) earned the one-hit victory on the mound, while striking out five.
Pegram (1-9) suffered the loss, striking out one, walking one and allowing five earned runs on five hits in three innings.
Jessica Finch gave the Nighthawks a 1-0 lead in the first inning with her solo home run down the left field line.
North Georgia stretched the lead to 4-0 in the third on Kim McMillan's three-run shot over the left field fence.
Burns led off the fourth with a solo homer, then the Nighthawks added two more runs in the inning when Meredith Heyer went home on a bases-loaded walk and Finch drove in Victoria Prince.
North Georgia made it 11-0 in the fifth when Heyer stole home, Prince singled in Shuman, Prince scored on a throwing error, McMillan advanced on a wild pitch, and Poole tripled in Kaitlyn Seabolt and Katie Garrett.
The second game was called due to the eight-run rule.
Finch and Prince had two hit each for the Nighthawks.
