Box Score 2 ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Lander softball team opened the Peach Belt Conference portion of its schedule on a sour note Saturday when Flagler College swept the Bearcats in a doubleheader, 6-1 and 10-3.
Flagler improves 14-18 overall and 2-2 in the PBC, while Lander moves to 6-18, 0-2.
In the first game, Kalyn Loverich (7-7) earned the win for Flagler, striking out three, and allowing one run (none earned) on three hits in six innings.
Lander's Tyler Riendeau (0-4) was tagged with the loss after striking out one, walking two and allowing six runs (one earned) on two hits in two-thirds of an inning. M.K. Pegram pitched five innings of relief, striking out two, walking two and allowing just two hits.
Lander took a 1-0 lead in the first on Taylor Donson's sacrifice fly that plated Destiny Clyde.
Flagler exploded for six runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 6-1 advantage. Mackenzie Conley and Maddy Murphy had RBI singles, Malloree Escue had a sacrifice fly, Molly Whittington and Murphy scored on a Lander throwing error, and Drea Monayarji went home on a bases-loaded walk.
For Flagler, Murphy had two hits.
In the second game, Flagler's Tinsley Smith (3-6) earned the win with two strikeouts, two walks and one earned run on two hits in four innings pitched.
The Bearcats' Amanda Chastain (2-2) suffered the loss with one strikeout, one walk and four earned runs on six hits in 2.1 innings.
Lander's Aubrey Lamar singled in Destiny Clyde in the second inning to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead.
The Saints came back in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 advantage after Escue and Caravano scored on Lander throwing errors.
Flagler tacked on four more runs in the third on Christen Moon's two-RBI double and Conley's two-run home run.
The Bearcats trimmed the lead to 6-3 in the fifth when Nikki Montesanti singled in Melanie Davis and MaKenzie Smith.
Flagler stretched its advantage to 7-3 in the fifth on Monayarji's RBI single, then made it 10-3 in the sixth on a bases-loaded walk and a two-RBI single by Whittington.
For Flagler, Lauren Bessent went 4-for-4, Whittington and Moon 2-for-3, and Conley 2-for-4.
