Box Score 2 GREENWOOD – The Lander softball team exploded for five runs in the fourth inning of the first game, then Taylor Crawford tossed a complete-game shutout in the second to lead the Bearcats to a non-conference doubleheader sweep Sunday afternoon against Coker College at Doug Spears Field. The Bearcats won the first game, 7-1, and the second, 1-0.
Lander, which snapped a season-opening, six-game losing streak, improves to 2-6 overall, while Coker drops to 4-3.
In the first game, Coker's Tayler Barcomb led off with a homerun over the left field fence to give the Cobras a 1-0 lead. The homer was their only hit of the game.
With bases loaded in the fourth, Destiny Clyde scored on a fielder's choice, Emily Marousek went home when Aubrey Lamar was hit by a pitch, Melanie Davis singled in Taylor Donson and Nikki Montesanti, and Reychel Webster drove in Lamar.
Lander stretched the lead to 7-1 in the fifth on RBI singles by Donson and Chasity Davis.
The Bearcats' Amanda Chastain (1-1) earned the win, striking out one, walking three and allowing one run on one hit in 4.1 innings.
Coker's Tabitha Allen (1-1) took the loss after striking out one and allowing seven earned runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings.
For Lander, Marousek and Donson batted 2-for-3.
In the second game, Lander broke the scoreless tie with two outs in the seventh when Donson, who singled, advanced to second on a fielder's choice, to third on a throwing error and home on a fielding error.
Crawford (1-2) struck out seven, walked five and allowed just two hits.
The Cobras' Lauren Phillips (1-2) struck out two, walked one and allowed three hits.
