Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Lander's Mike Lee connected on a four-point play with three seconds left in regulation Wednesday night to force overtime and boost the Bearcats men's basketball team to a 74-69 Peach Belt Conference victory over Georgia College in the Centennial Center.
Lander improves to 17-10 overall and 11-7 in the PBC, while Georgia College slips to 9-16, 5-13.
Lee was fouled by GC's Terrell Harris on his made three-point field goal attempt, then sank the free throw to tie the game at 61-all.
Dermaine Smith gave Lander a 63-61 lead with 4:44 left in the overtime and the Bearcats stretched the lead to 65-61 on a pair of Jareal Smith free throws at 2:57.
JR Washington sank a three at 2:23 to give Lander a 68-63 advantage. After GC cut the lead to 68-66, Michael Pannagio put the Bearcats up 70-66 with a jumper with 36 seconds remaining.
Dermaine Smith's dunk with 12 seconds left sealed the victory.
Jareal Smith led Lander with a game-high 26 points and nine rebounds. He connected on 10-of-18 field goals, including 3-of-5 threes, and 3-of-3 free throws. Panaggio added 13 points, five rebounds and five assists, Washington 11 points and eight rebounds, and Darius Carrier 10 points and seven rebounds.
Harris led GC with 19 points and six rebounds, while Royal Thomas added 18 points and five assists, and Larrentis Thomas a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Lander, which trailed 33-24 at halftime, connected on 28-of-63 field goals (44.4 percent), including 6-of-18 threes (33.3 percent), and 12-of-14 foul shots (85.7 percent). The Bearcats outrebounded GC, 42-35.
Georgia College was 23-of-60 from the field (38.3 percent), including 4-of-18 three pointers (22.2 percent), and 19-of-27 foul shots (70.4 percent).
