Box Score 2 COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Lander softball team pushed both its opening day games to extra innings Saturday, but wasn't fortunate enough to pull out a victory as the Bearcats fell to Rollins, 4-2, and to Lynn, 8-7, on the first day of the PBC/SSC Challenge hosted by Columbus State University.
In the first game, Rollins sealed the win with Kristie Hoeffer's two-run homer that scored Chelsea Reed in the eighth inning.
Rollins' Niki Fogle (1-0) earned the win with five strikeouts in 2.1 innings of relief.
Lander's M.K. Pegram (0-1) took the loss after striking out six, walking three and allowing three earned runs on four hits in 7.1 innings.
Rollins took a 2-0 lead in the third inning when Hilary Brown and Hailee Keisling hit back-to-back homeruns.
Lander tied the game at 2-all in the sixth as Aubrey Lamar doubled in Taylor Donson and Nikki Montesanti drove in Chasity Davis.
In the second game, Lynn's Kasey Murray (1-0) earned the win with one strikeout, three walks and three earned runs on two hits in two innings.
Lander's Taylor Crawford (0-1) suffered the loss after striking out six, walking five and allowing two earned runs on seven hits in 7.1 innings.
Lynn scored the winning run when Murray doubled in Devin Kochergen in the eighth.
Trailing 5-2, Lander scored five runs in the seventh to take a 7-5 lead after Destiny Clyde smacked a two-run homer and Lamar followed with a three-run roundtripper.
Lynn came back with two runs in the bottom of the inning to force the eighth after Danielle McNeill and Christina Carvatta both scored on errors.
For Lander, Clyde went 2-for-5, while Lamar and Addy Schelble both hit 2-for-4.
