Box Score GREENWOOD - The Lander men's soccer team's second-half rally fell short Wednesday night as the Bearcats lost to UNC Pembroke, 2-1, in a Peach Belt Conference game at Van Taylor Stadium.
UNCP improves to 3-4-3 overall and 2-2-2 in the PBC, while Lander drops to 5-3-1, 1-2-1.
The Braves Brett Luccia scored both goals for UNCP, netting the first from directly in front of the goal on an assist from Sam Miles at 11:33, then blasting the second from near midfield at 23:13.
Lander cut the margin to 2-1 at 76:03 on Russell Parker's shot from in front of the goal.
The Bearcats outshot the Braves, 17-8, and led in corner kicks 5-2.
UNCP goalkeeper Kenneth Perkinson tallied nine saves, while Lander's Barrett Nielsen had two.
Lander next travels to PBC rival Clayton State for a 7:30 contest on Saturday, Oct. 11.
