Kesler leads Lady Bearcats to upset of No. 12 Nighthawks

Box Score

GREENWOOD – Kimberly Kesler netted her second hat trick of the season Wednesday afternoon and led the Lander women's soccer team to a 3-1 upset over No. 12-ranked University of North Georgia at Van Taylor Stadium.

Lander improves to 8-2-4 overall and 5-2-3 in the PBC, while North Georgia slips to 13-3-1, 7-2-1.

Kesler, who also had three goals against Anderson University on Oct. 15, now has a team-leading 10 goals on the season.

Kesler gave the Lady Bearcats a 1-0 lead at 17:39 when she fired in her own missed shot from directly in front of the goal.

North Georgia rallied to tie the game at 1-all on Jessica Allen's unassisted shot from a mix in front of the net.

Kesler then netted what proved to be the winning goal when she lofted a 30-yard shot from the right side. She scored her final goal with 14 seconds left in the game when she maneuvered around the goalkeeper for a wide open shot.

North Georgia outshot Lander, 23-6, and led in corner kicks, 4-1.

Lander reserve goalkeeper Katie Lyle totaled seven saves, while Bearcat starter Kelsey Blair had three. North Georgia's Mallory Sayre totaled three saves.

The Lady Bearcats will host PBC rival Armstrong in their regular-season finale at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 1, at Van Taylor Stadium.
