Box Score GREENWOOD – The Lander men's soccer team got goals from three different players Saturday afternoon as the Bearcats defeated rival Flagler College, 3-1, in a Peach Belt Conference game at Van Taylor Stadium. The contest was videostreamed nationally as the NSCAA's Game of the Week.
Lander improves to 6-4-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the PBC, while Flagler drops to 5-8-1, 3-5-0.
Elias Hatungimana gave the Bearcats a 1-0 lead right before halftime on an unassisted shot from in front of the goal at 43:37. It was Hatungimana's team-leading sixth goal of the season.
Ali Mohamed then scored what proved to be the winning goal for the Bearcats at 77:04 when he found the back of the net off a pass from Kioki Hutchings.
Lander stretched the margin to 3-0 on a Zach Acree shot after he converted on a pass from Mohamed from the right of the goal at 79:45.
Erlend Lofsgaard helped Flagler avoid the shutout when he netted the Saints lone goal at 87:48 off an assist from Caleb Austin from short range.
The Bearcats outshot the Saints, 11-10, and led in corner kicks, 4-2.
Lander will next travel to Young Harris College for a PBC contest at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 22.
