Box Score ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Despite a game-high 23 points from Kayla West and a double-double by Alyssia Watkins, the Lander women's basketball team dropped an 80-74 Peach Belt Conference contest to Flagler College Saturday afternoon after rallying from a 24-point deficit.
Flagler improves to 7-10 overall and 5-5 in the PBC, while Lander moves to 8-10, 3-6.
West connected on 4-of-12 field goals, including two threes, and made 13-of-15 free throws. Watkins netted 14 points, including 12-of-15 free throws, and grabbed 13 rebounds, while Portia McCray added 21 points and seven rebounds.
Williesha Spencer led Flagler with 19 points, while Treva Mason added 11 points and nine rebounds, Shelbi Lindsey 11 points, and Christina Brown 10 points
Lander connected on 20-of-60 field goals (33.3 percent), including 4-of-22 threes (18.2 percent), and 30-of-41 free throws (73.2 percent).
The Saints were 30-of-62 from the floor (48.4 percent), including 5-of-19 from the three-point line (26.3 percent), and 15-of-19 from the foul line (78.9 percent).
Despite trailing 43-20 at halftime, the Lady Bearcats began making a run midway through the second half when a West layup cut the Flagler advantage to 62-42 with 9:19 remaining.
Lander outscored Flagler 12-3 over the next two minutes to trim the lead to 65-54 with 7:07 remaining.
Lady Bearcat Ty'hesha Reynolds nailed a three with 48 seconds left to make it 79-71, then a pair of free throws by Watkins with two seconds to go cut the deficit to six points.
