GREENWOOD – The No. 15 Lander men's soccer team defeated Lees-McRae, 2-0, Saturday night in its non-conference season opener at the Jeff May Complex.

Lander is 1-0, while Lees-McRae drops to 0-2.

Jose Cubillan scored from five yards in front of the net on an assist from Russell Parker at 50:22 to give Lander what proved to be the winning goal.

The Bearcats stretched the margin to 2-0 at 56:26 when Clement Dauchy fired a shot to the back of the net on a double-assist from Parker and Brett Jankouskas.

Lander outshot the Bobcats, 6-5, and Lees-McRae led in corner kicks, 4-3.

Lees-McRae goalkeeper Thomas Rusling had three saves, while Lander's Barrett Nielsen grabbed two.
