GREENWOOD – Casey Black punched in teammate Kimberly Kesler's missed shot directly in front of the goal Wednesday night to lead the Lander women's soccer team to a 4-3 Peach Belt Conference overtime victory against Georgia College at the Jeff May Complex. The game was played in a constant downpour.

Lander, which hadn't allowed a goal in the season's first five games, improves to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the PBC, while Georgia College drops to 4-3, 1-1.

Black's game-winning goal was scored at 96:27.

Despite each team taking eight shots each in the first half, Georgia College led 3-0 at halftime. Ashley Veilleux scored the first goal off an assist from Abby Dalton at 5:03; Cayce Hamilton netted the first of her two scores at 43:08 on an assist from Veilleux; then she found the back of the net on an unassisted goal at 43:41.

Lander's comeback began when Black scored off a corner kick at 52:28. The Lady Bearcats cut the margin to 3-2 at 58:14 on a Nina Morales shot assisted by Taylor Piorkowski. Jaymee Gibbons tied the game at 64:38 when she fired in an unassisted shot from 20 yards out.

Lander outshot the Bobcats, 24-13, and led in corner kicks, 12-5.

GC goalkeeper Jessica Catapano tallied eight saves, while Lander's Katie Lyle had four.
