COLUMBUS, Ga. – After sweeping the doubles play, the No. 7-ranked Lander men's earned three singles wins and advanced past No. 14 Augusta State, 6-1, Saturday afternoon in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional hosted by Columbus State University at the Mary V. Blackmon Tennis Center.
Lander improves to 16-3 overall and will face Columbus State at 3 p.m. Sunday for the right to advance to the NCAA Division II's Round of 16 in Surprise, Ariz. The Jaguars end the season at 12-12.
In doubles, No. 1 Adam Jonsson/August Iwdal (LU) def. Victor Guimaraes/Victor Cabellos (ASU) 9-8 (7-2); No. 2 Paul-Henri Arrigoni/Vincent Verpeaux (LU) def. Jan Labas/Romain Brunie (ASU) 8-1; and No. 3 Samuel Poutignat/Oscar Axelsson (LUM) def. Gustavo D'Ascenzi/Kenneth Guy Mooney (ASU) 8-0.
In singles play, which was halted when Lander had enough points to win the match, No. 1 Paul-Henri Arrigoni (LU) def. Victor Cabellos (ASU) 1-6, 6-0, 1-0; No. 2 Vincent Verpeaux (LU) def. Jan Labas (ASU) 6-2, 6-1; No. 4 Romain Brunie (ASU) def. Oscar Axelsson (LU) 6-1, 6-3; and No. 6 Diego Zegarra (LUM) def. Gustavo D'Ascenzi (ASU) 6-1, 6-0.
