Box Score 2 PEMBROKE, N.C. – Chasity Davis smacked a two-run homer Saturday afternoon to lead the Lander softball team to a 6-1 victory in the first game and a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader split with UNC Pembroke at LRA Field. Lander lost the second game, 4-1.
Lander is 14-25 overall and 4-12 in the PBC, while UNCP moved to 19-26, 5-11
In the first game, Melanie Davis (6-8) struck out two, walked two and allowed one earned run on five hits in the complete seven innings.
UNCP's Natalie Klemann (6-8) took the loss after walking one and allowing four earned runs on five hits in six innings.
Chasity Davis gave Lander a 2-0 lead in the first inning when she stroked a two-run homer over the left field fence.
UNCP cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom half of the inning on Brea Hartley's RBI single that plated Taylor Cloninger.
Lander stretched the margin to 4-1 in the sixth after Taylor Donson scored on a fielder's choice and Chasity Davis' sacrifice fly plated Brittney Sheriff. The Bearcats added two more runs in the seventh on RBI singles by Donson and Sheriff.
For Lander, Donson, Sheriff and Casey Corbitt all went 2-for-3.
Hartley batted 2-for-3 for the Braves.
In the second game, UNCP's Starr Gilley (8-9) picked up the complete game win after striking out nine, walking two and allowing one earned run on two hits.
Lander's M.K. Pegram (5-9) suffered the loss after striking out five and allowing four earned runs on seven hits in 5.2 innings of work.
UNCP went up 2-0 in the second inning when Hartley stroked a solo homer and Caitlin Steel scored on a double steal attempt.
Lander cut the lead to 2-1 in the fourth after Chasity Davis' sacrifice bunt pushed Sheriff across the plate.
The Braves upped the score to 4-1 in the sixth on RBI singles by Hartley and Steel.
For UNCP, Megan Hillard batted 2-for-2, while Shelby Holland and Steel each went 2-for-3.
