Box Score 2 GREENWOOD – The Georgia Southwestern softball team tallied 33 hits Sunday afternoon as the Hurricanes swept a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against Lander at Doug Spears Field. GSW won the first game, 15-6, and took the second, 16-0, in five innings.
The Hurricanes improve to 22-20 overall and 6-8 in the PBC, while Lander slips to 11-22, 1-11.
In the first game, GSW's Allison Pastor (10-6) earned the win after striking out nine, walking six and allowing five earned runs on six hits in the complete seven innings.
Lander's Amanda Hamby (1-2) took the loss, walking two, and allowing three earned runs on two hits in two-tenths of an inning.
GSW took a 4-0 lead in the first inning fueled by Jordan Miller's three-run homer and Janna Anderson's RBI single.
Lander cut the lead to 4-2 on Chasity Davis' two-RBI single that plated Taylor Donson and Brittany Sheriff.
GSW stretched its lead to 5-2 in the fourth on Elliott Martin's run-scoring single.
Miller stroked her second homer of the game, a two-run shot to right center, to give GSW a 7-2 lead in the fifth inning.
Chasity Davis' two-run homer to right center cut the lead to 9-4 in the fifth.
GSW made it 11-4 in the sixth on RBI doubles by Anderson and Rachel McElroy, but Lander answered in the bottom half of the inning when Donson's RBI triple drove in Nikki Montesanti and Donson scored on a throwing error.
Nellie Moore's two-run homer in the seven gave GSW a 13-6 lead, then Miller's two-RBI double made it 15-6.
For Lander, Heather Yoder batted 2-for-3 and Chasity Davis went 2-for-4.
For GSW, McElroy went 5-for-5, Miller 3-for-5, Mason Moreland and Anderson 2-for-4, and Martin 2-for-5.
In the second game, the Hurricanes' Ashley Cavendar (7-8) was awarded the shutout victory after striking out seven and walking one in five innings.
Lander's Tyler Riendeau (1-3) took the loss with one strikeout, three walks and seven earned runs on eight hits in three innings.
GSW took a 6-0 lead in the third inning on Miller's two-run homer, Anderson's base-clearing double and McElroy's RBI double.
The Hurricanes extended the lead to 13-0 in the fourth when Martin scored on a wild pitch, Anderson's single drove in Moreland and Kiley Doster, Hayley Knight went home on Avery Purser's groundout, McElroy's RBI single scored Anderson, and Martin's double drove in Miller and McElroy.
GSW added three more runs in the fifth when Anderson scored on an error, and Chelsea Hodges smacked a two-run homer.
For GSW, McElroy batted 3-for-3, Anderson 3-for-4, and Moreland, Miller and Martin all went 2-for-3.
