Box Score 2 YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - The Young Harris College softball team claimed a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader sweep against Lander Sunday afternoon, winning the first game, 3-1, and taking the second, 4-0, at E.D. Rivers Field.
Young Harris improves to 20-12 overall and 4-4 in the PBC, while Lander falls to 10-19, 0-8.
In the first game, Young Harris' Darby Stanford (11-3) earned the win, striking out six, walking one and allowing one earned run on three hits in the complete seven innings.
Lander's Kelsey Davis (3-8) took the loss after striking out one, walking two and allowing three earned runs on four hits in two innings pitched.
Young Harris took a 3-0 lead in the third inning on Kayla Jones' three-run homer to left field.
Lander scored its lone run of the game in the sixth on Chasity Davis' RBI single that drove in Arielle Buchholz.
Buchholz batted 2-for-2 for the Bearcats.
In the second game, YHC's Katie-Jo Gentry (5-7) was awarded the win after striking out three, walking one and allowing three hits in seven shutout innings.
Lander's M.K. Pegram (4-7) suffered the loss after striking out two, walking three and allowing three earned runs on eight hits in six innings.
Young Harris took a 2-0 lead in the third after Brittany Henry's RBI single plated Jones and Sydnee Weaver, then the Mountain Lions stretched the lead to 3-0 in the fifth when Jones' RBI double scored Paige Sexton. YHC made it 4-0 in the sixth on Sarah Beth Marquis' RBI double that sent Callie Holloway home.
YHC's Weaver batted 2-for-3 and was the only player with extra hits.
