Box Score 2 GREENWOOD – Lander's Chasity Davis smacked a grand slam home run in the first game, but the Bearcats couldn't overcome Georgia College's six-run seventh inning as the Bobcats swept the Peach Belt Conference doubleheader, 8-6 and 7-0, Wednesday afternoon at Doug Spears Field.
Georgia College improves to 23-11 overall and 7-3 in the PBC, while Lander moves to 10-15, 0-4.
In the first game, GC's Erica Bell (2-0) earned the win, striking out two, walking three and allowing three earned runs on one hit in two innings.
Lander's Amanda Hamby (1-2) suffered the loss after walking one and allowing four earned runs on three hits in two-thirds of an inning.
Georgia College took a 1-0 lead in the first when Kristen Brooks scored on Kelsea Martin's sacrifice bunt, then stretched the margin to 2-0 in the second on Whitney Okvist's RBI double.
Lander cut the lead to 2-1 in the fourth when Nikki Montesanti's RBI double plated Kelsey Davis.
The Bearcats took a 5-2 advantage on Chasity Davis' grand slam in the fifth inning.
But the Bobcats rallied for six runs in the seventh when Brooks scored on a fielder's choice, Martin's RBI double plated Okvist, Campbell's RBI single scored Abi Leroy, Dani Gallucci's groundout pushed Emily Hammond across the plate, Kristen Humphries RBI single scored Natalie Lampert, then Whitney Horton doubled in Humphries.
Lander added one run in the seventh when Sheriff scored on a fielder's choice.
For Georgia College, Humphries batted 3-for-4, Brooks 2-for-3 and LeRoy 2-for-4.
Seven Lander players had singles.
In the second game, GC's Marisa Boyette (11-4) was awarded the win after striking out eight, walking one in the complete-game shutout.
Lander's M.K. Pegram (4-4) took the loss, striking out 10, walking three and allowing seven earned runs on eight hits in seven innings.
GC took a 2-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by LeRoy and Martin's sacrifice fly. LeRoy's two-RBI double in the second inning stretched the Bobcat lead to 4-0.
Campbell's two-run homer in the fifth gave GC a 6-0 lead, then Brooks made it 7-0 with a solo shot in the seventh.
For Lander, Bethany Beggs and Kelsey Davis both went 2-for-3.
For GC, Okvist batted 3-for-3, while Brooks and LeRoy both went 2-for-3.
