Box Score 2 DAHLONEGA, Ga. - The Lander softball team split its season-opening games Saturday at the North Georgia Invitational when the Bearcats defeated Lincoln Memorial University, 2-1, then fell to Alabama-Huntsville, 9-1.
Lander starts the season 1-1.
In the first game, Kelsey Davis (1-0) earned the win after striking out three, walking one and allowing one earned run on five hits in the complete seven innings.
Lander, which totaled three hits in the game, scored one run each in the third and fourth innings to secure the win.
In the third inning, Hannah Gatley scored on Melanie Davis' groundout. In the fourth, Brittney Sheriff advanced home on Chasity Davis fielder's choice.
In the second game, Alabama-Huntsville scored six runs in the first inning and ended the game via the eight-run rule with three runs in the fourth inning.
Lander scored its lone run in the first inning when Taylor Donson went home on Bethany Beggs' groundout.
Amanda Chastain (0-1) suffered the loss for Lander, allowing two walks and three earned runs on four hits.
Donson went 2-for-3 for the Bearcats.
