Box Score GREENWOOD – Lander's Aarika Judge made seven 3-pointers and scored 31 points as the Lady Bearcats rallied from an early 23-8 deficit and beat Peach Belt Conference rival Georgia College & State University 77-67 Thursday night at Horne Arena.
Lander improved to 9-16 overall and 6-12 in the Peach Belt. The Bobcats fell to 12-13, 8-10.
Judge not only had an outstanding scoring night by making 10 of 17 shots overall and seven of 11 from behind the arc, she also posted a double-double with 10 rebounds.
Lea Saunders added 17 points for the Lady Bearcats while Precious Elkins had nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Jamie Shaw added seven points and seven boards, all on the defensive end.
Shanteona Keys (25 points) and Enisha Donley (21) scored 46 of Georgia College's 67 points. Keys made nine of 13 shots including all five of her attempts from behind the arc while leading the Bobcats with seven rebounds. All of her 3s came in the first half. Donley hit 10 of 19 shots. Belinda Schaafsma led Georgia College with seven assists.
Judge had 20 points in the first half while Keys had 19.
Lander made 26 of 59 shots from the floor (44 percent), 13 of 17 free throws (77 percent) and 12 of 27 from 3-point range (44 percent).
The Bobcats hit 26 of 55 shots (47 percent), six of 12 free throws (50 percent) and seven of 12 from beyond the arc (58 percent).
The Lady Bearcats out-rebounded Georgia College 40-29.
Keys hit three 3s and Donley made a free throw to stake the Bobcats to a 10-0 lead in the game's first four minutes. Keys hit two more treys to make it 20-8, and McKenna Rushton's 3 increased the lead to 23-8 with 10:43 left in the first half.
But Lander went on a 15-0 tear over the next three-plus minutes of the game, tying the score at 23-all. Saunders started the run with a pair of free throws, Elkins made a layup, Judge knocked down a 3-pointer, Sakezia Kelly also made a 3, Judge hit another 3, and Saunders made a layup to tie it.
After Donley made a jump shot, Judge hit another trey to give the Lady Bearcats their first lead of the game at 26-25.
The rest of the first half went back-and-forth as Judge made two more 3-pointers. Kelley hit two free throws with 22 seconds left to give Lander a 40-37 halftime lead. The Lady Bearcats outscored Georgia College 32-14 over the final 10-plus minutes of the first half.
Judge stayed hot at the outset of the second half, answering Donley's inside basket with yet another 3 to give Lander a 43-39 advantage.
The Lady Bearcats were still holding a slim 45-42 lead when they went on a 19-6 run to make it 64-48 with 10:52 remaining. Saunders had a pair of 3s during the run, Judge also had six points, Elkins scored five points including a three-point play, and Briana Wade added a bucket. Since trailing 23-8, Lander had now outscored the Bobcats 56-25 since the first 10 minutes of the game.
Rushton made a 3 and Donley scored twice to pull Georgia College back within single digits at 64-55 with 5:38 left.
But Lander put the game away with another run, this being seven unanswered points. Judge hit two free throws, Wade made a layup, and Shaw hit a 3 to extend the Lady Bearcat lead to 71-55 inside the four-minute mark.
