Box Score 2 VALDOSTA, Ga. - Chasity Davis recorded two RBI singles in Sunday's first game, but it was the one in the seventh inning that plated Bethany Beggs and gave the Bearcats a 3-2 victory over the University of West Florida and a split of their two games at the Valdosta State Invitational. Lander lost to host Valdosta State, 6-1, in the second game.
Lander moves to 6-7 overall on the season.
In the first game, West Florida took a 2-0 lead on Aubrey Sumlin's two-run homer in the fourth inning.
Chasity Davis' two-run single tied the game at 2-all in the fifth when it scored Beggs and Brittney Sheriff.
M.K. Pegram (3-1) earned the win after striking out three, walking two and allowing two runs (none earned) on four hits in the complete seven innings. West Florida's Taylor Bailey (0-1) suffered the loss after striking out three, walking one and allowing one earned run on one hit in 1.2 innings pitched.
For Lander, Beggs went 3-for-3 and Chasity Davis 2-for-4.
For West Florida, Caroline Kaston batted 2-for-3.
In the second game, Valdosta's Kenzie Reed (4-1) earned the win, striking out three, walking three and allowing one earned run on four hits in six innings.
Lander's Kelsey Davis (2-4) suffered the loss, striking out two, walking one and allowing six earned runs on 13 hits in six innings pitched.
Valdosta jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning on a Karson King RBI single and Lindsey Hamlin's sacrifice fly.
Chasity Davis' RBI double plated Beggs to cut the Valdosta lead to 2-1 in the fourth, but Valdosta answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning on Courtney Albritton's run-scoring double.
VSU stretched the lead to 6-3 in the fifth on Ashley Steinhilber's solo homer, Hannah Strickland's RBI triple and Fran Johnson's run-scoring single.
For VSU, Morgan Johnson, King, Strickland and Fran Johnson all had two hits.
