Box Score 2 DECATUR, Ala. - The Lander softball team split its games Friday at the Charger Chillout, a three-day tournament hosted by the University of Alabama-Huntsville at Wilson-Morgan Park. Lander downed Ohio Dominican, 7-6, in the first game, and fell to West Georgia, 9-2, in the second.
Lander is 4-4 overall on the season and will play two more games each on Saturday and Sunday.
In the first game, Alyssa Hartley's RBI single in the seventh inning plated Arielle Buchholz for Lander's winning run.
The Bearcats took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a Bethany Beggs RBI single and Chasity Davis' sacrifice fly.
Ohio Dominican went up 6-2 with one run in the second inning and five more in the fifth.
Lander trimmed the margin to 6-4 in the third inning after Taylor Donson scored from third on a Ohio Dominican error and Chasity Davis popped another sacrifice fly.
The Bearcats tied ODU at 6-all in the fourth on Donson and Brittney Sheriff's back-to-back RBI triples.
Kelsey Davis (2-1) earned the win on the mound for the Bearcats, striking out one, walking one and allowing one earned run on six hits in 4.2 innings pitched.
For Lander, Sheriff went 3-for-4, while Donson and Beggs had two hits each.
In the second game, Amanda Hamby (1-1) took the loss for the Bearcats, striking out two, walking one and allowing three earned runs on six hits in two innings pitched.
Lander took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Beggs' RBI single, only to have West Georgia come back and tie the game at 1-all in the top of the second.
After trailing 2-1 in the third inning, the Bearcats tied it at 2-2 when Sheriff went home from third on a wild pitch.
West Georgia went back up 4-2 in the fourth, then added four more runs in the sixth and one in the seventh.
Sheriff went 2-for-3 at the plate.
