Box Score 2 DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Like Saturday, the Lander softball team once again split games with Lincoln Memorial University and Alabama-Huntsville Sunday at the North Georgia Invitational. The Bearcats opened the day with a 10-2 loss to Alabama-Huntsville, then downed LMU, 11-2.
Lander moves to 2-2 on the season.
UAH scored three runs in the first inning, one in the second and won the game via the eight-run rule with its six-run, fifth inning.
Both the Bearcats runs came in the third inning when Hannah Gatley, who was pinch running for Chasity Davis, scored on Sarah Fuller's RBI single, and Alyssa Hartley advanced home on Casey Corbitt's fielder's choice.
Kelsey Davis (1-1) took the loss for Lander, walking one and allowing three earned runs on five hits in one inning pitched.
Chasity Davis batted 1-for-2 with one double to lead Lander at the plate.
M.K. Pegram (1-0) earned the win in the second game against LMU after striking out four, and allowing four hits in five complete innings.
Lander took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Corbitt's RBI single plated Brittney Sheriff and Corbitt later scored on a passed ball.
Tied at 2-all, Lander exploded for four runs in the fourth inning and five runs in the fifth to claim the victory via the eight-run rule.
In the fourth, Bethany Beggs scored on Arielle Buchholz's fielder's choice, Hartley went home on a passed ball and Sheriff's two-RBI single plated Melanie Davis and Buchholz.
In the fifth, Chasity Davis singled and later scored on an LMU error, Melanie Davis' bases-loaded walk plated Beggs, Donson's RBI singled in Hartley, and Donson and Melanie Davis both scored on Corbitt's two-RBI single.
Donson, Sheriff, Corbitt and Beggs all had two hits.
