GREENWOOD - The No. 8-ranked Lander men's tennis team swept all six singles matches and two of three doubles in an 8-1, season-opening victory over Newberry College in a non-conference match at The Joe Cabri Tennis Center.

Lander opens the season at 1-0, while Newberry is 0-1.

In singles, No. 1 Paul-Henri Arrigoni (L) def. Michael Saunders (N), 6-0, 6-1; No. 2 Vincent Verpeaux (L) def. Vinicius Botelho (N), 6-1, 6-0; No. 3 Adam Jonsson (L) def. Carlos Nicolopulos (N), 6-2, 6-0; No. 4 Oscar Axelsson (L) def. Fernando Espana (N), 7-6, 6-3; No. 5 August Iwdal (L) def Cal Loveridge (N), 6-0, 6-1; and No. 6 Paulo Fernandes (L) def. David Sons (N), 6-4, 4-6, 10-6.

In doubles, No. 1 Michael Saunders/Vinicius Botelho (N) def. August Iwdal/Adam Jonsson (L), 9-7; No. 2 Paul-Henri Arrigoni/Vincent Verpeaux (L) def. Cal Loveridge/Carlos Nicolopulos (N), 8-2; and No. 3 Samuel Poutignat/Oscar Axelsson (L) def. Jeffery Kiser/Fernando Espana (N), 8-2.
