AUGUSTA, Ga. – Lander's Michael Panaggio scored 16 points and Jareal Smith added 13 Saturday evening in the Bearcats' 61-60 non-conference loss to Anderson University during first day action of the PBC/SAC Challenge hosted by GRU Augusta at Christenberry Fieldhouse.

Anderson starts the season at 1-0 and Lander is 0-1.

Panaggio connected on 5-of-10 shots, including 3-of-5 threes, while Smith was 5-of-10 from the floor and 3-of-8 from behind the arc. Smith also led the team in rebounds with seven.

Chandler Hash led Anderson with 18 points, while Chris Ross added 15 and CJ Gleaton 12. Kyle Sledge led the Trojans in rebounds with eight.

Lander connected on 23-of-42 field goals for 54.8 percent, including 8-of-20 threes for 40 percent. The Bearcats made 6-of-11 free throws for 54.5 percent.

Anderson made 22-of-51 floor shots for 43.1 percent, including 5-of-23 threes for 21.7 percent. The Trojans sank 12-of-15 foul shots for 80 percent.

Anderson, which led 27-24 at halftime, outrebounded the Bearcats, 30-26.

Lander will next play Tusculum at 2 p.m., Sunday, in the second day of the Challenge.
