Box Score GREENWOOD – Kyle Stuller's first goal of the year was a doozy Tuesday night as he fired in the game-winning score to lead the seventh-seeded University of Montevallo men's soccer team to a 2-1 overtime victory against second-seeded Lander in the first round of the Peach Belt Conference tournament at the Jeff May Complex.
Montevallo improves to 9-8 overall and will advance to Friday's 8 p.m. semifinal against third-seeded Flagler, a 1-0 winner over sixth-seeded UNC Pembroke, at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans, Ga. Lander must now wait to see if earns an at-large berth into the NCAA national tournament.
Stuller's shot was from 20 yards out, hit the crossbar, then rebounded off the ground and into the goal at 95:09.
Lander took a 1-0 lead at 18:13 when Kevin Durand scored off an assist from Jose Cubillan. It was Durand's ninth goal of the season.
The Falcons knotted the game at 1-all after Ricky Davey netted an unassisted shot from in front of the goal.
Lander outshot Montevallo, 12-11, while both teams had four corner kicks.
Montevallo goalkeeper Brendan Ledgeway had five saves, while Lander's Barrett Nielsen grabbed one.
