Box Score PEMBROKE, N.C. – Taylor Piorkowski scored two goals and Nina Morales added two assists as the undefeated Lander women's soccer team earned its seventh shutout of the season Wednesday night when it defeated UNC Pembroke, 2-0, in a Peach Belt Conference game at University Field.
Lander, with its best start ever, improves to 9-0 overall and 5-0 in the PBC, while UNCP drops to 5-5, 3-3.
The Lady Bearcats took a 1-0 lead at 17:49 when Piorkowski found the back of the net from in front of the goal off a Morales assist.
Piorkowski scored her second goal, the fifth of the season, on another assist from Morales, at 48:10 to give Lander a 2-0 lead.
Lander goalkeeper Katie Lyle, the reigning PBC Goalkeeper of the Week, had four saves, as did UNCP's Britney Bennett.
The Lady Bearcats outshot the Lady Braves, 18-9, and led in corner kicks, 4-0.
Lander will next host PBC rival Clayton State at 1 p.m., Saturday at the Jeff May Complex.
