Box Score GREENWOOD – Despite giving up its first goal of the season Saturday afternoon, the No. 5-ranked Lander men's soccer team rallied to defeat the University of Montevallo, 3-1, in a Peach Belt Conference game at the Jeff May Complex.
Lander improves to 6-0-1 overall and 3-0-0 in the PBC, while Montevallo sinks to 3-6-0, 1-3-0.
Chris Hobbs gave Lander a 1-0 lead on penalty kick at 5:46.
Then Montevallo accomplished what the previous six teams couldn't – score a goal on Lander. Jackson Tolleson's unassisted goal at 59:08 tied the game at 1-1.
Lander retaliated by scoring two goals within the next three minutes. Clement Dauchy found the back of the net on an unassisted shot at 60:23, then Guillaume Pommett scored off a Brett Jankouskas assist at 62:55.
The Bearcats outshot Montevallo, 13-10, and led in corner kicks, 5-2.
Lander goalkeeper Barrett Nielsen grabbed four saves, while the Falcons' Brendan Ledgeway had three.
