Box Score FLORENCE – The Lander volleyball team claimed its biggest upset of the season Friday afternoon when the Bearcats defeated Francis Marion, 3-1, in a Peach Belt Conference match at the Smith University Center. Game scores were: 23-25, 31-29, 25-23, 25-17.
The Bearcats improves to 14-8 overall and 5-7 in the PBC, while FMU falls to 15-4, 8-3. Earlier this season, FMU won, 3-2, on Sept. 21 at Horne Arena.
After losing a close first set, Lander claimed the second, it's longest of the season, 31-29, to get the momentum going.
Kendall Korte and Jessica Register both had double-doubles. Korte totaled 18 kills and 10 digs, while Register had 45 assists and 17 digs. Tarryn Angermeier added 16 kills, Kiki Hennessey 21 digs, Sarah Bradley 18 digs and Julia Ferreira-Alves, 15 digs.
Francis Marion was led by Alexzandra Reed (19 kills), Jessica Imbimbo (10 kills, 15 digs), Shelby Jones (10 kills), Kailey Smith (59 assists), Rebekah Davis (34 digs), Paige Perreault (13 digs), and Brianna West (11 digs).
Lander will next travel to UNC Pembroke for a PBC match at 1 p.m., Saturday.
