Box Score GREENWOOD – Yet to allow a goal this season, the No. 5-ranked Lander men's soccer team defeated USC Aiken, 3-0, Wednesday night in a Peach Belt Conference game at the Jeff May Complex.
Lander improves to 5-0-1 overall and 2-0 in the PBC, while USC Aiken drops to 3-5-1, 0-2-0.
In NCAA Division II statistics this week, Lander, which is the only team in the country that hasn't allowed a goal this season, leads the nation in scoring offense (4.4 goals per game) and shutout percentage (1.00). Individually, Kevin Durand is third in the country in assists (.80 per game) and fifth in points per game (2.8). Chris Hobbs is tied for fifth in the country in goals per game (1.25).
The Bearcats took a 1-0 at 8:57 when Zach Acree scored off an assist from Russell Parker from in front of the goal at 8:57.
The Bearcats stretched the lead to 2-0 on a Hobbs penalty kick at 50:37. Hobbs then scored from five yards out in front of the goal on an assist from Parker at 79:31 to make it 3-0.
Lander outshot the Pacers, 17-8, and led in corner kicks, 4-1.
USCA goalkeeper Joshua Poissant had five saves, while Lander's Barrett Nielsen totaled four.
Lander will next host the University of Montevallo at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5 at the May Complex.
