GREENWOOD – The Lander Lady Bearcats rallied from a 12-point halftime deficit to take two late leads but fell to Flagler College 60-58 in a Peach Belt Conference game Saturday afternoon at Horne Arena.

Lander fell to 6-10 overall and 3-6 in the Peach Belt. Flagler improved to 7-8 overall, 5-5 in the PBC.

The Lady Bearcats lost despite a double-double by senior post player Precious Elkins, who scored a game-high 17 points and had 14 rebounds, including 10 offensive boards.

Aarika Judge added 13 points for Lander, Ashleigh Zandi had 11 rebounds, and Lea Saunders contributed 10 points, nine steals and eight assists.

The Lady Bearcats made 25 of 83 shots from the floor (30 percent), five of nine free throws (56 percent), and only three of 20 from 3-point range (15 percent). Lander took 22 more shots from the floor than Flagler.

Passhayla Williams led the Saints with 14 points on 6 of 8 shooting, including the go-ahead basket in the final minute.

Christina Brown added 13 points for Flagler, including three important 3-pointers in the second half. Shelbi Lindsey had a game-high 16 rebounds while scoring nine points and adding six steals. Williesha Spencer led the Saints with five assists.

Flagler made 20 of 61 shots from the floor (33 percent), 15 of 18 free throws (83 percent), and five of 17 from 3-point range (29 percent).

Lander out-rebounded Flagler 56-47.

Trailing 6-0 and 14-6, the Lady Bearcats pulled within 14-12 on a Saunders layup with 8:07 left. But Flagler used a 10-2 run to build its advantage to 24-14 and would lead 28-16 at halftime.

Lander rallied to tie on Judge's jumper, making it 35-all with 11:50 left. The Lady Bearcats took their first lead when Elkins scored inside, putting Lander on top 37-35 with 10:57 to go.

But Flagler took advantage of Lady Bearcat turnovers and regained the lead with a 10-0 run, with Jan Knurek's basket tying it, Spencer scoring inside, and Brown making a pair of 3s for a 45-37 lead with 8:21 to go.

Still down by eight, 47-39, Lander rallied again. Sakezia Kelly's layup pulled the Lady Bearcats within 47-43 with 5:45 left, and after Elkins made a basket and a free throw on consecutive possessions Lander was within 48-46 at the five-minute mark.

Lindsey's free throws pushed Flagler's lead back to four at 50-46 with 3:24 to go. But Lander pulled within 50-48 with 2:22 left when Briana Wade rebounded Judge's missed 3 and laid it in.

Spencer hit a long jumper to give the Saints a 52-48 lead just inside the two-minute mark. The Lady Bearcats responded again with Judge making a 3, closing them within 52-51 with 1:43 left. The Saints were also called for a foul on that play and Lander got another possession but failed to score.

But the Lady Bearcats got the ball back when Saunders tied up a Flagler ball-handler, and Zandi drove in for a layup that put Lander on top for just the second time in the game, 53-52, with one minute to go.

Brown hit a 3 to put Flagler back ahead, but Saunders scored quickly to tie it at 55 with 43 seconds left. The Saints went back up 57-55 with 32 seconds to go when Williams drove inside for a layup.

Lander missed a scoring opportunity on the other end and was forced to foul Brown, who made two free throws for a four-point Flagler lead with 14 seconds to go.

The Lady Bearcats attempted to rally again. Judge missed a 3 from the left corner, but got another chance from the left wing and hit a long 3 to close the gap to 59-58 with four seconds left.

Knurek made one of two free throws with one second left, but Lander did not have enough time to get off a shot.
