Box Score GAFFNEY – The Lander men's soccer team secured its biggest win of the season Wednesday afternoon when the Bearcats upset No. 21 Limestone College, 3-2, in a non-conference match.
Lander improves to 5-1 overall, while Limestone drops to 5-2.
Lander took a 1-0 lead at 31:50 when Brett Jankouskas scored his first goal of the season on an assist from Matthew Osmond.
The Bearcats stretched their lead to 2-0 after reigning PBC Player of the Week Chris Hobbs found the back of the net off an assist from Jankouskas at 37:37. Last Saturday, Hobbs scored three goals in a 4-3 PBC victory over Georgia Southwestern.
Lander kept the momentum going in the second half and took a 3-0 lead on Clement Dauchy's header off Kevin Durand's free kick at 52:52.
Limestone cut the lead to 3-1 at 60:33 on Thomas McCready penalty kick. The Saints then made it 3-2 at 77:10 on Benjamin Morande's header off another McCready free kick.
Lander outshot the Saints, 19-15, while both team had two corner kicks.
Limestone goalkeeper Tom Godfrey had four saves, while Lander's Barrett Nielsen tallied two.
