GREENWOOD – Jamie Presnell scored the winning run in the first game and Kelsey Davis tossed a four-hit, complete-game shutout in the second as the Lander softball team swept Coker College, 3-2 and 4-0, Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader at Doug Spears Field.
Lander improves to 24-22 overall, while Coker slips to 18-20.
In the first game, Hayley Leissner (12-12) earned the win after striking out seven, walking one and allowing one earned run on two hits in the complete seven innings.
Coker's Katie Lee (5-4) took the loss, allowing two earned runs on six hits in 1.2 innings pitched.
The Cobras took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on Logan Cox's RBI single.
Lander rallied to take a 2-1 advantage in the sixth when Arielle Buchholz's RBI single plated Melanie Davis and Casey Corbitt's sacrifice fly drove in Kelsey Davis.
The Cobras bounced back to tie the game at 2-all in the seventh on Sydney Weatherford's solo home run.
Lander won the game in the seventh when Presnell doubled and later scored on a Coker throwing error.
For Lander, Sarah Fuller batted 2-for-2, Kelsey Davis 2-for-3 and Brittney Sheriff 2-for-4.
In the second game, Lander took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Sheriff scored on Presnell's RBI single and Melanie Davis drove in Taylor Donson.
The Bearcats stretched the lead to 3-0 in the third on Presnell's solo homer over the centerfield wall, then made it 4-0 in the fourth on Donson's RBI single that plated Corbitt.
Kelsey Davis (5-2) was awarded the win after striking out four, walking one and allowing just four hits in seven innings.
Coker's Becky Dillon (6-6) suffered the loss after allowing three earned runs on seven this in 2.2 innings pitched.
For Lander, Presnell went 3-for-3, Melanie Davis 2-for-3 and Donson 2-for-4.
