GREENWOOD - The No. 9-ranked Lander men's tennis team won two of three doubles matches and the match was called after the Bearcats claimed three singles in a 5-1 Peach Belt Conference victory over No. 12 Augusta State Saturday afternoon at The Joe Cabri Tennis Center.
Lander improves to 17-3 overall and 7-2 in the PBC, while Augusta State drops to 14-7, 3-4.
In doubles, No. 1 Adam Jonsson/Vincent Verpeaux (L) def. Henrique Boturao/Jan Labas (A), 9-7; No. 2 Victor Guimaraes/Victor Cabellos (A) def. Oscar Axelsson/Ross Armstrong (L), 8-4; and No. 3 Paul-Henri Arrigoni/Samuel Poutignat (L) def. Bernardo Fernandes/Maxie Coulomb (A), 8-3.
In singles, No. 1 Verpeaux (L) def. Fernandes (A), 7-4, 6-4; No. 2 Arrigoni (L) def. Boturao (A), 6-2, 6-0; and No. 6 Axelsson (L) def. Coulomb (A), 6-0, 6-1.
The other three singles matches were halted once Lander reached five points.
