MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Lander softball team dropped a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader at Georgia College on Friday afternoon, losing the first game, 4-0, and the second, 4-3.
Georgia College improves to 25-21, 9-9 in the PBC, while Lander moves to 26-24, 4-14.
In the first game, Georgia College's Sabrina Chandler (9-9) earned the complete-game win after striking out four and allowing eight hits in seven innings.
Lander's Hayley Leissner (13-13) took the loss, striking out three, walking four and allowing one earned run on four hits in six innings pitched.
Georgia College took a 2-0 lead in the first inning after Whitney Okvist led off with a triple and scored on a Lander throwing error, then Natalie Bellantoni, who walked and stole second, scored on Michl'le Hull's sacrifice bunt.
The Bobcats stretched the margin to 4-0 in the fourth inning when Frankie Walls walked and Okvist singled and both later scored on a Lander fielding error.
For Lander, Buchholz went 2-for-3 and Taylor Donson batted 1-for-3 with one triple.
For GC, Okvist batted 2-for-2.
In the second game, Lander streaked out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning. Hartley and Sheriff both singled, advanced bases on a passed ball and scored on back-to-back RBI singles by Donson and Chasity Davis. Sarah Fuller then drove in Donson.
Georgia College trimmed the margin to 3-2 in the fourth inning on RBI singles by Haley Burnett and Shahlisa Shirley, then tied the game on Burnett's solo homer in the sixth.
Okvist's RBI single plated Natalie Lampert in the seventh for the win.
The Bobcats' Haley Burnett (7-7) earned the win in relief for GC with three strikeouts in 4.2 innings pitched.
Lander's Kelsey Davis (5-3) suffered the loss with two strikeouts and three earned runs on nine hits in 6.2 innings pitched.
For GC, Bellantoni, Burnett and Walls all batted 2-for-3.
