SPARTANBURG - The Lander softball team defeated No. 22-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne, 7-1, and downed Le Moyne College, 7-3, Sunday afternoon at the final day of the Mid-South Classic.
Lander, which snapped an eight-game losing streak, improves to 8-10 overall. On Saturday, Lander lost to Catawba, 7-3, and to Tusculum, 11-2.
Lander 7, Lenoir-Rhyne 1
M.K. Pegram earned the win with four strikeouts and five walks.
Alyssa Hartley stroked her second home run of the season, while Jaime Presnell doubled, and Chasity Davis and Kelsey Davis both went 2-for-3.
Lander 7, Le Moyne 3
Hayley Leissner earned the win with five strikeouts and three walks.
Brittney Sheriff batted 3-for-4 with one double and one single, Presnell went 1-for-3 with one triple, Arielle Buchholz 2-for-3 with one double, and Hartley 2-for-4.
Catawba 7, Lander 3
Lander scored all three of its runs in the first inning on Chasity Davis' two-RBI double and an RBI single by Arielle Buchholz.
Presnell batted 3-for-4 and Casey Corbitt went 2-for-4.
Leissner suffered the loss on the mound after striking out seven, walking two and allowing seven hits in eight innings pitched.
Tusculum 11, Lander 2
The Lady Pioneers scored two runs each in the second, third and fourth innings, and the game was called due to the eight-run rule after Tusculum's five-run fifth.
Taylor Donson had an RBI single in the second inning and Hartley's long fly hit the centerfielder's glove and went over the fence for an unearned run.
Lander's Kelsey Davis took the loss, striking out three, walking one and allowing five earned runs on 12 hits in 4.2 innings pitched.
Chasity Davis batted 1-for-3 with a double, while Donson went 2-for-3 and Sheriff 2-for-2.
